DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. By Teletraiih.—Press Association. Masterton, Last Night. A Maori shearer named Pnhara Ttv heria, a native of Wairoa, who severely injured himself while shearing on a local station, died in the Masterton hospital while under an anaesthetic on Wednesday evening. At (he inquest a verdict was returned of death from heart failure while under an anaesthetic, Avhich was imperative for a surgical operation. DEATH ON A STEAMER. Wellington, Last Night. W. Hopkins, aged sixteen, a brass boy on the ferry steamer Maori, and rcsi. (lent at Christcl.ureh, fell down the hold just prior to the vessel's departure for Lyttelton to-night. He was killed outright. FATAL GUN ACCIDENT Timaru, Last Night. A telephone message from • Fairlie reports that a settler at Sherwobdowns. .fames Calder, married, with ii small family, was killed by the accidental discharge of a gun in getting through a fence to-day.
