Nov. 3. The executive of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce met on Tuesday cvenin». With reference to the Chamber's application for slot telephones ill Stratford, the secretary reported having written to the Deputy District Engineer of the Telegraph Department at Wanganui, asking particulars of the initial cost of the telephones and suggesting one be placed near the present Post Otlice, but no reply had yet come to hand.

Correspondence in connection with the plans of the new Post Ofiice was read, a letter from Mr. R. Masters, M.l'., containing the information that the plans were completed and under consideration by the Postmaster-General on Oct. S. It was decided to write to Mr. Masters stating that ample time had elapsed since October 8 for the plans to have been sent to Stratford for serut/ iny by public bodies interested, and asking if he could give any definite assurance when they would reach Stratford.

The chairman reported having attended the public meeting convened by the Mayor, when it was decided not. to proceed with the petition for the freehold of the railway leases on Broadway.

• The chairman also reported that lie and Mr. Thomson had attended the dinner given by the chairman of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce at New Plymouth in connection with the inauguration of direct shipping to New Plymouth. He expressed the opinion that in order to deal with the extra shipping the Harbor Board would probably have to lind a good deal more money. The present arrangement however, was that the shipping companies had agreed to put on a direct bAit every three months and allot space for 1000 tons of goods which he thought there would be no difficulty in using up. As no further correspondence was received in connection with the new railway station at Stratford, the matter was deferred until the first meeting in the new year, members expressing the opinion that the station would be shifted within five Tears.

The secretary reported that he had communicated with the secretary of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants regarding the Chamber's suggestion that an advisory committee should work in conjunction with the Education Board in the matter of commercial training at the technical schjfol, and he had received a replyto the ffl'ect that as the Stratford Technical School was under the control of the householders' committee, nothing could be done in the matter. It was agreed to take no further action in the matter.

A letter was received from the stationmaster, Stratford, stating that 'he application from the Chamber lor the Whangamomona train to be delayed from 4 p.m. till o or 5.30 p.m. on Tuesdays, had been forwarded to the Di„trict Traffic Manager at Wanganui.

The motion was carried. The Postmaster, Stratford, wrole stating that the Chamber's request for a parcels delivery could not be granted as the number of parcels received did not warrant such an innovation. —Received. ( , Mr, Malone said that the weighing scales in the railway goods shed at Stratford were far from satisfactory, and suggested that, the matter should be brought to the notice of the stationmaster. It was agreed that the stationmaster's attention be drawn to the fact that the scales were inaccurate.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Strnlfold School Committee was held last night. Present: M". J. W. B;ou (chairman), Mesdames I'liillips and Hollands, and Messrs. <!. Molly Kiinl'oril. the seven-year-old daughter of Mr. R Rant'ord, Opunake Koad,/had the misfortune to have her left arm hadlv broken at the elbow as. a result of an accident on the Opunake Road yesterday afternoon. She and her sister. Phyllis, were riding doublehanked on a poiiv on their way home from school, and when the pony commenced to trot the children became nervous and fell off'.
