CUSTOMS RETURNS.

A QUESTION IN THE HOUSE. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Tlie Minister for Customs was asked in the House of Representatives this afternoon byMr.S.G. Smith (Taranaki) whether the publication ot the monthly Customs returns had been discontinued, and" if so, what was the reason "star chamber" proceeding. Mr. Smith quoted a report stating this fact from the /I'nvanaki Daily News. Sir William Hemes said he was not aware of any discontinuance. He would look into the matter, but he thought that some mistake had been made. [On making inquiry for last month's returns a Daily News representative was informed by the New Plymouth Customs that instructions had been received not to give the figures to the Press.]
