MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
CIVIL BUSINESS. The usual sitting of the New Plymouth Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, Mr. T. A. B. Bailey presiding. The British Petroleum Company (Mr. C. H. Croker) applied for a rehearing of the case in which judgment was obtained against them at the suit of L. W. Cburtenay (Mr. E. H. Quilliam) some weeks ago for £lO4, being a wages claim. ] The Magistrate adjourned the application for a week, and a similar course was adopted in a claim made by Z. A. i>yer against the company for wages. In the latter case the adjournment made on condition that the amount of the claim was deposited with the clerk as surety. A. R. Peddy (Mr. 0.. H. Weston) claimed from W. B. Joffts (Mr. C. H. Croker) the sum of £B, for carpentering work done. The defendant paid £4 into Court and alleged that certain of the work specified had not been carried out. After evidence His Worship gave judgment for £5 10s. A claim for possession of a •tenement was made by Eliza B. Maddock (Mr. Quilliam) against Thomas Listed (Mr. Croker). The case concerned the nonpayment of rent. His Worship made an order for possession in six weeks' time. A claim was made by Ronald Andrews (Mr. A. Bennett) against Thomas W. Telford (Mr. Hutchen) for the sum of £l3 18s, being balance of moneys due to plaintiff as the employee of defendant. The decision was reserved. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following cases:—WeSfcon and Billing v. C. H. Nioholls and A. E. Otway, £57 9s 8d; same v. A. E. Otwtty, £1 16s; Greenway Bros. v. J. Wallaon, £1 4s lOd (costs 10s); Wi Paraoue v. Ngamwta Wi Piti, £SO (costs £4 10s 8d); W. Seamark v. Te Raro Rewiri, £25 2s 6d (costs £4 33; Kate Haines v F. Siflett, £4 10s (costs £1 3s fld).
