NEW PLYMOUTH v. FRANICLEY ROAD. A chess match was played at the Soldiets' Club on Thursday night last, between members of the New Pyymouth Chtb and a team i.f visitors from Frankiey Road, and it is to be hoped thai this is only the beginning of many pleasant evenings. Tho results were as follows. New Plymouth players beincv mentioned first. In some cases, where time permitted, miore than one game was played by the competitors, no limit being placed on tie number of games:—E. Hine (2) v. A. Vowiess (0) ; V. Wllllss (1) v. T. Brown (0); S. Martin (1) v . C. Chant (1); \V. Martin (2) v. 11. Davy (0) ; Shaw (2) v. T. Priest (d); L. Mnrkland (1) v. R. Vowiess (U); I, Tulfeny (ii) v. I!. E. Brewster (-/a). The Club is endeavouring lo fix a telegrapllic match with Wanganui at an early date.
