WORLD'S PRESS CONGRESS.
DEFINITELY ABANDONED. By Telesrapn.—Press Assn—Copyright. Sydney, Oct. 27. Mr. Mutch has announced that the Government has decided to abandon the World's Press Congress. The ohief grounds for abandonment were the unsettled conditions of Britain and Europe, and the heavy cost of travelling,; which made it unlikely that a representative attendance would be secured. The main representation seemed likely to come from North and South America, and consequently the advertisement that Australia might obtain would not have been as valuable as anticipated. Another reason for the abandonment was that Australian criticism 'of Japan had damaged tho enthusiasm of the Japanese. Mr. Mutch consulted with and received the endorsement of leading journalists in tho abandonment.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Received Oct. 28, 10 30 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 28. • Mr. Mutch hopes the Press Conference organisation work of the past five years Will not be wasted, and when the international conditions are more favorable invitations to the conference will be roI newed—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
