CORRESPONDENCE.

BUTTER-FAT PRODUCTION. (To the Editor.) Sir,—ln to-day's Issue of the News :\ppears a report of a statement made by Mr. E. Maxwell at the last annual meeting of the executive of the Taranaki Farmers' Union. It makes very interesting reading He says that several years aso Mr. Jas Burgess, then of Warea, made up a statement of cost of production of butter-fat on a per cow basis, etc. The whole thing works out lovely, and shows that the farmers can make the large amount of 3d per hour for wages. Now, -Mr. Burgess' herd used to be milked by sharemllkers on a 50 per cent, basis, so presumably they had iy 2 d per hour each. No wonder Mr. Burgess retired and caaie to Fitzroy to live.—l am, etc., CHIPS.
