BONUS FOR BABIES.
TO HELP SMALL WAGE EARNERS, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Hospital Board to-daw adopted a committee's report in whictt the following was included: "We recommend that the Government be asked to establish the payment upon application of a maternity bonus of £2O for each legitimate child born when the income of the family does not exceed £3OO per annum, and that the scope of the St. Helens maternity hospitals be extended to persons whose incomes do not exceed £'3so a year. TJic committee is of opinion that a social insurance fund, to which the employee, the employer, and the Government should contribute, would be of material asalstano* to families during periods of distress' arising from sickness, accident, or other causes."
