AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Sydney, Oct. 25. The second series of the wool sales has opened. Good classes of greasy merino, which are more in evidence than at the opening sales, are in strong demand at late levels, with- n firming market. Poorer are neglected and have an easing tendency. The third series of the. Sydney wool sales, for which 20,000 bales are catalogued, will be held 011 November 1. Newton King, Ltd., reports:— At Douglas sale and bull fair on the 18th., we report a 'full yarding of cattle and a complete clearance at the hammer. Prices improved considerably for ail classes. Bulls were yarded in excess of advertised numbers, all breeds meeting with good competition. Sheep sold at rates on a par with l recent sales. Hoggets 24s 6d, fat ditto 38s 6d, ewe 3 and lambs 46s Od, store cows £6 5s to £7 ss, forward cows £8 5s to £9 15s, fat ditto £lO lss, mixed yearling heifers £4 12s 6d to £6 12s 6d, empty helfera £7 15s to £9 15s, yearling steers £2 15s to £3 Bs, 2yeaf v steers £6 lis, 3-year-olds £8 16s to £9 Is. springing heifers backward classes £7 to £lO 10s, forward classes £l2 10s to £l6 15s, quality ditto £l7 10s to £2O, grade Jersey bullß £l2 to £24, Shorthorn bulls £7 to £ll. 10s, Frleslan bulls £5 to £lO, Ayrshire bulls £7 15s to £9 15s. At Stratford, on the 19th, the market had a firm tone throughout. Yarding accommodation was fully taxed and with few exceptions the bulk of the offering changed hands All classes met with good enquiry. Store cows, light and aged £4 2s 6d to £5 2s, better sorts £7 to £8 ss, forward cows £9 10s, light fat ditto £lO 5s to £ll 12s Od, mixed yearling heifers £3 10s to £6, yearling steers £8 7s 6d to £3 16s, 2-year steers £6 4s to £6 13s, empty heifers £5 10a to £lO, ln-calf heifers £7 10s.

At Stratford dairy sale on the same day, we offered a full yarding to a good attendance of buyers. The offering taken on the whole was of good quality, the enquiry being mostly for good sorts close to profit. Calved cattle sold very well. Backward classes were in little or no demand. Spring heifers backward anil poor conditioned £7 10s to £9, medium quality £l2 to £l7 10s, well grown i;nd nice quality ditto £22 10s to £23 10s, choice Jerseys £25 10s, grown and nice quality ditto £22 10s to £23 10s, choice Jerseys £25 10s to £2B, dairy cows £lB to £34 10s. At Inglcwood sale, 011 the 20th., a steady market prevailed, young cattle heifers especially Improved considerably as also did empty heifers. Store cows and other classes sold readily at late rates. ' A few pens of sheep met with a ready sale. The offering of dairy cattle was small, but enquiry was good, anything showing quality realising high prices. Shorn hoggets 26s 2d, empty ewes •Ills Cd, fat and forward ewes and wethers 37s del, ewes and lambs 425, store cows £4 5s to £8 10s, mixed yearling heifers £3 5s to £5 17s, 15-month Holstein ditto £7 3s, Jerseys £6 to £7, mixed yearling steers £2 8s to £4. 2-year steers £5 15s to £7, enipty heifers £6 Is to £8 16s, springing heifers £lB to £23 10s, dairy cows £ll 10s to £l7 10s, cow and calf £23 10s.

At Inglewood bull fair on the 21st, the yarding was quite up to advertised numbers. Buyers were in strong attendance, and the sale was a keenly contested ono throughout, grade Jersey bulls making exceptionally good sales. The yarding of pedigree animals was small, and enquiry only moderate for them. Grade Shorthorns and Holstelns were hard to quit. Jersey pedigree bulls 30 to 65 gns., Holstein 41 gns., Jersey yearling bulls £l3 to £34,, 2-year ditto £l4 to £35, 3-year ditto £4O to £SO, Holstelns £9 to £l7, Shorthorn bulls £9 to £l2. At Urenui sale and bull fair on the 22nd., We report a full yarding. Tl:e market had a bright tono throughout, store cattle selling at advanced rates. Dairy cattle were a shade easier, due 110 doubt to a big portion of the offering being .backward sorts. , Bulls were in keen demand, few falling to' find buyers. Shorn hoggets 17s 3d, unixed ewei and wethers shorn 25s 9d, store cows £7 10s to £9 ss, fat cows £ll 10s to £l3 2s 6U. mixed yearling heifers £3 Is to £5 2s 6d, empty heifers £5 15s to £8 7s 6d, yearling steers £1 16s to £3 13s 6d, 20-month steels £5 9s, particularly choice yearling to 15month Jersey heifers on account of Mr. PI:U Wells, of Pukearuhe, £l2 15s to £lB 16s springing heifers £8 10s, forward classes £ll to £l6 10s, dairy cows £l3 to £l3 10s, pedigree Jersey bulls 27 gns. to 90 gns. Grade Jersey bulls £ls to £35, Frleslans £7 to £9, Shorthorn bulls £5 to £8 15s, pedigree Hereford 20 gns. At Itahotu sale and bull fair on the 22nd : the market showed a decided improvement, the bulk of a full yarding changing hands at the liammer. Bulls were in very fair demand, competition being good for the three breed;!, Jersey Holstein and Shorthorn. Store cows £7 10s to £9 10s, mixed yearling heiferi £3 17s 6(1 to £4 ss, yearling Jersey heifers £G 12s M, empty heifers £6 "s to £8 2s 6(1. mixed yearling steers £2 ,14s to £3 10s, 2%-jear steers £7 5s to £7 17s 6d, 4-year bullocks £l4 2s Od, backward springing heifers £6 10s to £7 10s, more forward classes £lO 10s to £ll, dairy cows £lO 10s to £l6 10s, Jersey bulls £lB to £l9 10s, Shorthorn ditto £S 3s to £3O, Frieslan bulls £6 to £9 ,'s. At Stratford bull fair on the 16th inst., the offering was big and enquiry good. Jerseys were in the majority both in pedigree and grades, the former making up to 67 gns., whilst grades sold from £lO to £3O, according to age. Pedigree Shorthorns sold up to 20 gns., and jrade ditto to £ls, grade Holstelns realis«d US 19 818.
