STRATFORD RAILWAY.

THE STOPPAGE AT WEST END, PROTEST TO THE GOVERNMENT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. The decision of the Minister for Public Works to stop ail work at the-west end of 't'he Stratford-Okuhukura. railway, was discussed at a representative meeting held at Stratford to-night. The Mayor presided. The following resolution, moved by M-r. I'. Thomson, and seconded by Mr. W. P. Kirkwood, was carried! unanimously: "That this public meeting of Stratford citizens strongly protests against the proposed stoppage of work on the west end of the StratfordOkahukura railway, and reminds the Government of its policy stated 'through the Minister of Public Works, ol hastening the completion of main trunk lineß, and recognition of this line as s'ueli, and demands increased expenditure and expedition of the work in keeping with the Dominion importance of the line." It was decided to send a copy of the resolution to the member of the district, and to ask him to make representations to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Works.

The matter will also be discussed at, the annual meeting of the Stratford Railway League, and at a meeting of the executive of the Taranaki Progress League, to be held at Stratford on Thursday morning.
