TARANAKI NOTES. Th* usual weekly meeting of the Xmv Plymouth Cress Club was held on Friday evening, when a fair number of players were present. Prior to commencing play a meeting was held and the secretary, Mr. V. Willis, read a challenge from the Frunkley Road Club, who stated they had eight chess players who would like to try their strength with the New Plymouth Club. A great contest. :s anticipated tn take place on Tlursciay evening next, when the public will bo admitted to watch the play. The final result of the 20-aside telegraphic match between Auckland and Wellington, wis a great victory for tho latter, they having won 13 and lost six, and the remaining game is to go to adjudication for consideration. Tho games played on Friday last resulted: E. Hine (3) v. P. Willis (0); Shaw (0) v. .1. Lamas (1) ; Shaw (0) v. J. Nevvlng (1) ; Sim (1) v. Bruce (1); A. B. Gibson (2) v. P Staines (2); W. Martin (1%) v. S. Martin (1%).
