THE NEW NURSES' HOME.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l was surprised to read in your report, of the Hospital Board meeting that the Board turned down the recommendation of the medical superintendent to put tiled floors in the bathrooms at the new nurses' home, especially when the cost is so small. Everyone who has had .-Miy experience of colored cement work knows that it will not stand hard wear. The coloring laiatter put in the cement plaster interferes with the settling properties of the cement, and it Is only a question of a comparatively short time when the surface becomes rough, and eventually requires renewing, rtaster work of any description has not a sufficiently durable surface for inside floors. The decision is surprising also from the domestic point of view. The hospital start is up against ihe difficulty. The tiles would be so much more easy to keep clean, and when the help is so difficult, to obtain It should be used to the best advantage. The nurses do a great and often very unpleasant work, and do it cheerfully, and their comfort should be considered. I am sure tbat it is not the wish of the ratepayers that anything that will contrtliutc to their comfort should lie left unrtr.pe. I would suggest that a "liospilal Saturday" he held to raise the money for tills work, and any other littie lliirurs on wUfoh the Board may not see their way to spend money. It sfould not be difficult, to raise a few hundred pounds, and this, with Die tJovernment subsidy, would enable the work to he carried out as recommended by the .medical superintendent. Trusting that Ihe ladles of this town, who always so generously give their services to any good work of this sort, will take ihe inciter up—l am. etc , OXE YYTM.IN'O; TO COXTKIBI'TE,
