FOR TELEPHONE EXTENSIONS. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night Mr. S. ii. Smith (Taranaki) asked the Po3tmaster-(>cne.rai whether, in view of the serious shortage of rata timber suitable for use an amis on telegraph poles, he will confer with the Minister »f Public Workn as to the advisability ot constructing a comparatively short length of light railway from the town of New Plymouth to the bush in the Carringlou Road district, where large quantities of the best rata and rimu timber are'available, if suitable transport facilities me provided. The lion. .T. «;. C'oates replied: "The mutter will be considered during the recess, but it is unlikely that the comparatively small amount of timber involved in arms for telephone poles which will be required would warrant the const ruction of even a light railway."
