LOSS TO ANGLERS.
FISH PONDS INTERFERED WITH. 8000 TROUT LIBERATED.
An act of larrikinism was perpetrated by some person in Pukekura Park on Saturday, when the zinc trap in thf Acclimatisation Society's pond wa» opened and about 3000 young rainbow trout liberated into the other ponds, where they will probably fall a prey to the perch. The Acclimatisation Society had gone to a great deal of trouble and expense in putting the ponds in order after being in disuse for some time On Tuesday one pond was completed; on the following day the consignment was put in and were doing exceedingly well. The president (Mr. C. Grover) accompanied by the curator (Mr. W. W. Smith) paid a visit on Saturday afternoon, when it was found that the fish had been liberated. The act seemed to be more than a boy's task, as some con* siderable strength would be needed tq shift the trap. The matter is being inquired into by the police, and the society is offering a reward for information leading to the conviction of the culprit or culprits. That the efforts of the society in endeavoring to stock the local streams jvith fish should be frustrated by suchv mischievous interference is disappoint* ing to the offiieals who have devoted so much time to the work.
