Sporting intelligence, as dished out by Wellington scribes: (1) "The new (laming Act, which is now in operation, is having a. deterrent effect on the booUmatting business, and a number of well-known 'woolbrokers' are seeking fresh fields and pastures new. The vocation of bookmaker Is certainly a hazardous one to follow since the enforcement of the Act in question." (2) "The bookmakers are tailing their cards as usual, and displaying no trepidation in connection with the new gaming law. Doubles, straight-out wagers, and totallsator odds can be obtained just as easily as they could before Parliament agitated Itself about the matter. The publle is still waiting to see what the police authorities are going to do. If they do nothing all the reforming zeal of ihe Racing Conference will have been wasted."
