ALLEGED PROFITEERING.

CASES AT DUNEDIN. ONE CHARGE WITHDRAWN By Telegraph.—Presa Association. Duncdin, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day, several charges alleging profiteering were brought against local firms. In the case of Harry Herbert Driver, bookseller, charged witii selling a geography book at an unreasonably high price, Mr. Callan (appearing for tlie Board of Trade), said ho had received a letter asking the Court's permission to withdraw the charge. This attitude of the Board of Trade was the result of a. decision in the Court of Appoal a» applying to Driver's case. There was nothing left in the case except a question of a mistake in the price put on a book, and the defendant afterwards explained that this was done by a mistake Tho Hoard saw no reason to doubt this statement.

Defendant's counsel (Mr. Hay) applied lor costs. The defendant, he said, was not responsible for the Board takin* the wrong view of the law.

Mr. Cnllnn opposed this. The Magistrate said it could not be stated that the law was at all certain until the Full Court had given its decision. He would not-allow costs. The nevt ease was against Riach and MeLennan, of selling a kitchen tablo at a price unreasonably high. Defendant pleaded not guilty. The case has not finished.
