SOUTH TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the association was lield last week. Mr. B. McCarthy, president, being in tlio chair. There were in addition delegates as follows: Hawera: Messrs. Nellsen, Henderson, and Pratt; Manaia, Messrs. Hushes and Miller; Okalawa, Messrs. Penny and Marsh: Eltfcam, Messrs. Bain and Stewart; Kaponpa, Messrs. C. J.'. Betts and Priest. After the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the application of Klcham and Kaponga clubs to be affiliated to the association was agreed to. The report congratulated members on a very successful season, consider!,tip it. very satisfactory that after fire years without any cricket the game had been taken up so enthusiastically. During the season four outside matches were played—tt'anganui, Nomads, and North Tar.maki (2), but, unfortunately, in no ease was a victory secured. Referring to the club matches it was stated thai; tlrcsu were well contested, the shield going eventually to Hawera Midlands. Thanks are due to Messrs. .T. S. McKay and B. McCarthy for presenting gold medals for batting and bowling, and with pleasure it is announced that these were won respectively by Mr. E. M. TJccchcy and A. Worrall. The former had the splendid average of 07 for six innings (twice not out—aggregate 208), and the latter the excellent figures of r»7 wickets, at fin average cost of just under four runs each. Both played for the Midland team. Tl:e report also presented for consideration two important questions-—the Saturday half-holiday and the schools competition. Referring to finance, it; was stated that there is a credit balance of £lO ss. It was urged that the affiliation fee be raised to £1 Is, in view of possible increase in expenses, and of the fact -hat the subscription to the Cricket Council 'n now £3 3s. Election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. B. McCarthy; vice-presidents, Messrs. .T. K. Meuli (Okaiawa),i 0. Casey (Kaponga), Dixon (Hawera), R. Hughes 'Manaia), G. W. Tayler (Elthatm) ; hon. secretary and ireaum, Mr. D. D. Henderson; delegate to Cricket Council, left in tire hands of tho secretary to arrange. Messrs. Penny, Maunsell and Pratt were appointed a selection committer, and Messrs. Pratt, Henderson, and Neilsen a fixtures committee. ■ It. was resolved that the association institute a Saturday competition, and invite nominations from affiliated clubs; that they also make tho best arrangements possible for a mid-week competition. The subscription to the association was fixed at £1 Is. A motion was carried that a circular be sent to each district school, asking representatives to meet on Saturday, October 23, at 2.30 p.m., in the Borough Chambers, 1o arrange a primary schools competition for the coming season. A committee was set up consisting of Messrs. McCarthy, Nellsen, and Henderson, with power to add, io meet tte representatives of the schools, and that a fur--Iher meeting be held on the evening of October 23. The association resolved to donate the sum of £2 2s to the schools competition. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. P. M. Pratt for his good services to the association. It *was resolred to open the season on Nov.
