NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The New Plymouth Borough Council mot last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. Jas. Clarke), Crs. J. W. Hayden, V. Griffiths, I<\ J. Hill, A. E. Sykes, W. P. Short, R. L. Parkin, A. S. Ilrooker, and W. A. Collis.

PARKING CARS. A petition was received from nineteen garage owners and taxi proprietors asking the Council to alter the stand? for private cars from King and Powderham Streets to some other less congested area on account of the congestion which took place at these 'streets on busy days. Commenting on this, Inspector Day reported: "There is no doubt that tho parking of cars on the streets is be(oming a serious question, and on Saturday last the stands wore quite full, and cars were standing in several other places. The inspector said he did not i.now where else the cars could be put. lie recalled that some time ago he suggested to the Council using the section opposite the station and making a charge to owners of cars. ' The Council decided to secure a report from the inspector on the question nf tlje extension of the parking area. HYDRO-ELECTRIC WORKS. Reporting on No. 1 contract of the hydro-electric extensions for the period ended October 10, tho engineer's, Messrs. Mason, Lee, and Owen, stated that the leading is driven a total distance of 904 feet, being a little over half-way. GENERAL. On the motion of Crs. Griffiths and Brooker, it was decided that reports from the electrical engineer, and other data available bo placed on the' table at next Monday's; meeting. The matter waa introduced by Cr. Griffiths drawing attention to some statements anent the trackless system made by Cr. Haye'en through the Press recently, and he an id he desired to have official information on the point.
