CRICKET.

PROSPECTS FOR THE SEASON. INTEREST OS COUNTRY CLUBS. Cricket eiflhusiasts in North Taranaki are confident that the coming season Is going to be the most successful in its history. Cricket, like other sports in Taranakt, suffers from the dual half-holiday, but it also suffers even more for the lack of interest taken in the younger players by the old and experienced hands. Last season showed that we have a lot of promising material ttat only requires coaching on right lines to become an acquisition to the game. The majority of the clubs have already had their annual meetings, but so far no move has been made by Albion, Waireka and Whiteley to re-form. It is stated that the two latter clubs will not be revived this year, but it is hoped that the former will be able to enter for the competition. Tiro country clubs this year promisfe to take a very important part in the competition. Tikorangl and Inglewood will enter teams in either tho Thursday or the Saturday competition, while Urenul has entered a senior team in the Thursday competition, and a junior team in the Saturday competition. A meeting of delegates to the Cricket Council was to have been held last night, but there was no quorum. The meeting will probably be held next Friday, when tho fixtures will bo drawn up. Clubs intending to compete stould at once notify the secretary oV the Association. So far the following definite nominations have been received: Urenui, senior Thursday and junior Saturday; High School, senior Saturday and A and B juniors, Saturday; New Plymqutih, senior and junior .Saturday, and senior Thursday, if additional players are available; Old Boys, senior Saturday; Tlkorangi will probably enter two teams, and Inglewood one. It is pleasing to note that the masters of the town schools are Interesting themselves in the game, and have inaugurated a competition among the various primary schools. The school competitions were to lave started to-day, but the wet weather will probably necessitate their postponement.
