Under the present' legislation, lie stated, with the exception! , jj£Jhe four cities, the Fire Hoards wero allowed to borrow no more than £IO,OOO. In view of the increased cost of material, and the decreased purchasing power of money, he asked the' Minister to consider extending this limit. The N«w Plymouth Board was anxious to provide better accommodation for the married members of the fire brigade, sin«e there had been some difficulty in gelting men for tho service. The aa*i question affected other towns. 'Wang*. nui had been in a difficulty, and by special legislation had been raised to* the same limit as t.ie four cities. It was only fair to raise other place* to the same limit. The Minister said that as he hid been asked to consider tho matter favorably, lie would make that hid answer. He would give it favorable consideration, for it was a matter that should be considered. The New Plymouth Fire Board had submitted plana of a building to, house its employees, and the matter would be favorably co|)< sidered in connection therewith.'
