I ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held at the Soldiers'. Club last night, Mr. R. C. Hughes (vice-president) occupying the chair. THE YEAR'S WORK. The annual report stated that the committee had met monthly and the attendance of members had been fairly good. The number of cases of cution for offences had been small. There a marked improvement in the interest of the people generally ill the welfare of animals, and this had been manifested by the number of communications received from various parts of the district relative to cases calling for attention. The committee expressed regret that the inspector (Mr. Collins) had sent in his resignation owing to other business demands. During the year the ColviUe Memorial prize essay competition was conducted, ten schools competing. The essays were found to be superior in many respects to those of previous years. / The balance-sheet showed a credit of £24 2s Ud. ~ The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. , GENERAL. Votes of thasks were accorded the following for donations: Mrs. Earp, Messrs. W. W. Smith, Fauldon Fawcett, and Captain Waller. J An honorarium of £5 was voted the inspector. The society also passed a special vote of thanks in recognition of the honorary services of Mr. Humphries as secretary. Acknowledgment was made of the ser-i-iecs of the outgoing auditor (Mr. Morton), and of the help given generally to the society by Air. F. Lownsborough, of Lepperton, the inspector of police and assistants.
