BAPTIST CONFERENCE. By Tolejraph.—rress Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Baptist Conference to-day, the election of officers resulted: President, Rev. H. E. Edridge; vice-president, Rev. L. N. Andrews; ex-president, Rev. J. L. Jenkins; secretary, Rev. R. S. Gray (Auckland); auxiliary, Rev- W. H. Hinton (Wellington), Rev. J. R. Carey (Canterbury), Rev. J. K. Archer (Otago), Rev. L. Morris, and sixteen others. MORE PAPER MONEY. Wellington, Oct. 1!. T!ie quarterly banking averages for September again showed substantial increases in deposits but, unlike last year, there was a very big increase in ad- | ranees and discounts, and a further ex- [ pansion of the note circulation. Government deposits were £7,527,380, free deposits £30,480,909; fixed deposits. £10,044,093; advances, £37,191,041; discounts. £1,820,867; note circulation £7,617,293; coin and bullion, £7,710,017. In addition to the £7,710,017 in metal, the banks held £830,093 in legal tender notes.
