ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
CHHiD KILLED INSTANTLY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taihape, Oct. 11. Thomas Michael Downey, aged seven years, fell from a motor-lorry driven by his father this morning. A wheel paised over his head, killing him instantly. SMASH AT PUNGAREHU. Near Pungarehu on Tuesday evening a Maori named Mohorangi, driving a Hudeon car, collided with the Opun&ke-New Plymouth passenger car driven by Mr. R. Moorcock, causing injury to two of tlie passengers. The collision occurred neir a. bend on the Main road, on the north side of Pungarehu, the Maori, it is alleged, coming off the. corner at an alleged terjrific pace. Moorcock, who was travelling at reduced speed, did his utmost to get otit of the way, but was unable to do so, the result being a terrible smash which damaged both cars considerably. Constable O'Neil was communicated with, and on arrival at the scene of the accident arrested the Maori and placed him in the Rahotu lock-up.—Opunake Times.
