THE TRAMWAYMEN.
| QUESTION OF NEW AWARD, i DEADLOCK REACHED. Negotiations between the New Plymouth Borough Council and the Tramway Employees' Union regarding the latter's application for a new award have not resulted in an agreement being arrived at, and it is probable the matter of wages will be discussed before the Conciliation Council. The main point at issue is the question of overtime on Sundays. At last night's meeting of the Borough Council, the general manager stated that the men's delegates had reported that the Union was not prepared to accept time and a half for Sundays, as suggested by the Council at the conference last Thursday. Double time was wanted for this work. In regard to trackmen's wages the Union asked for £4 10s instead of £4 per week. The Mayor remarked that very few systems paid double time for the work mentioned. The Council resolved that it was not prepared to go beyond the previous decision.
