PEARCE DIVORCE CASE.
QUESTION OF RESPONDENT'S RETURN. By Telegraph.-—l'rcss Association. Wellington, Oct. 9. The Pearce divorce ease, with its complications arising from the departure of the respondent, George Pearce, ex-M.P. for Patea, with lis (laughter Hazel, allegedly in direct contravention to the orders of the Court, was mentioned again at the Supreme Court before the Chief Justice this morning. After hearing counsel, consideration of the question of the application for a writ of attachment was adjourned till October SO. Mr. M. Myers, for the petitioner, Margaret Pearce, mentioned that the respondent's solicitor had informed him that certain letters sent to Pearce had been returned through the Dead Letter Office, causing respondent's solicitor to think that there might have been some misunderstanding by Pearce, and that he should be given sufficient time in connection wi'ch the proceedings to return to New Zealand. As the criticisms might be somewhat harsh, Mr. Myers thought it fairer to await Pearce's return. Pearce's solicitor had undertaken to cable. Pearce's counsel agreed to an adjournment on the understanding that an endeavor would be made to ascertain whether Pearce would be back in New Zealand by December 10. Pearce's solicitor said lie had no doubt that, if Pearce received a. cubic, lie would return. His Honor accordingly adjourned the proceedings.
