ABOUT £2lO REALISED. EFFORT FOE SCHOOL HOSTEL. The Mart Day, which was conducted by the New Plymouth High School Old Girls' Association on Saturday in aid of the funds for the erection of the High School boarding-house, was a very successful campaign, good support being accorded the movement. Besides the mart conducted at the Workers' Hall there were a number of stalls in Devon Street, and all did pood business. The total realised was £236 19s sd, and the Association hopo to clear £2lO out of ! the venture. Quite a number of people were assembled in the vicinity of the hall hefore the doors were opened, and the rush of baTgain-hunters bore a semblance to a city drapery sale. The second-hand stall was nuiekiy surrounded with buyers, and in ..this instance business was so brisk .that practically everything j was cleared by a quarter to ton. The j patronage accorded this department was | really the feature of the day. Before j the close of business, however, the j other stalls wore also soid out, and almost a complete clearance was made of the stocks. The doll stall did a particularly brisk trade, the sum of £iß 2s Cd being taken, and the sale of fancy poods brought in £22 8s fld. Others ranged from seven to sixteen poundß. Following arc the details of the stalls receipts:—Cake, £l4 4s 9d; Jam and Pickles, £ll 7s lOd; Produce, £ls 18s' 13 Jd; Sack and Holland, £lO 5s 7d; Baby Clothes, £l2 ISs lid; Dolls, £lB 2s Cd; Old Clothes, £2l 14s 7d; Books and Music, £l3 (is 3d; Sweets, £9 Its | Id; Souvenir and Jumble, £lO ns 10ld; Fancy, £22 Ss !)d; Flower, £l2 18s 8d; Cigarette, £0 9s; Plan of Boardinghouse, £9 14s Id; Sundries (including donations), £5 9a 7d. The competitions resulted as follows; J)olis—Mrs. Weston, Miss K. Oliver, Miss D. Fox and Miss I. Smith: Cake, Miss liirton; Doll's Cabinet, Miss ,M. Noble; Camisole, Mrs. E. Perry: Nightdress, Miss Hare; IJonlton Ware, Miss Ayers; Silver Teapot, Miss Margaret Pearloss; Lucky Golliwogs—7o, brooch; 100, pendant; 108, handkerchief; 291, glove box. Prizes may be had on application to Miss Douglas, Pendarves Street. The following were the stall-holders; Second-hand Clothes—Misses Ivirton, Allen, Anthony and I. O'Brien. Doll Stall.—Misses Barr, Drew, Sheat, Downs, Cassie, Dell and Leach. Sweet Stall—Misses Clark and Burrows. Baby and Children's CloSies.—MissSs Short, White, Z. Bellriiiger, Warren, and E. Pearee. Fancy Stall.—Mrs. Pickering and the Misses Mouatt. Sack and Holland Stall.—Misses tenth. Watkins, and Pellew. Cake Stall.—Mesdames L. B. Webster and Bell, and Misses Thomson and Roy. Jam and Pickle Stall.—Mrs. F. Wilson, Mis cs A. Wilson and Mclvcllar. Produce Stall.--Misses E. Greatbatch, K. Campbell and H. Whitton. Souvenir and .fumble Stall.—Misses O'Brion, E. Campbell ami Bullard. Books and Music.—Miss Gibson. Cigarette Stall.—'Mrs. T. P. Anderson a?id Miss Brewster. Flower and Plant Stall.—Mesdames ( Stockor, Balharrv and Fitzherbert. Girls' Boarding-house Plan—High School girls. The secretary of the Association (Miss Andrews) stated that the committee is indebted to the following for help: Mrs, Burgess' committee, the children of the Fitzroy and Bell Block schools, and to the High School girls.
