PARLIAMENT.
CAMINO BILL TO-NIOHT. t —— GIVING MORE "TOTE" PERMITS. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.)] Wellington, Last Night. _ Parliament lias been doiug very solid Work lately: indeed, the House has been working faster than tlio law drafting department, with the result that oil Friday night the order paper was almost cleared of important Government Bills. The most important measure remaining on tho order paper was the Land and Income Tax Bill, but last week the Prime Minister promised that he would not hurry the Bill through. The probability is that it will not be considered in committee until Tuesday or Wednesday. One reason why there is so little Government business on the order paper is that several matters are still before Parliamentary committees. Monday's sittings will be occupied mainly with Mr. Geo. Hunter's Gaming Amendment Bill, which provides for the issue of thirty-eight additional totalisator permits to country racing clubs, trotting clubs, and hunt clubs. The question is a non-party one, but it is sure to he vigorously opposed by antigamblers on both sides of the House, and as vigorously advocated by "the sports" on the Opposition as well on on the Government side. A late sitting may be expected. Even if the Bill passes the Lower House, of which there is I some doubt, it is not at all certain that it will pass in the Upper House.
