G. For the third day of the AJ.C. spring meeting, tie weather was fine and there was a big attendance. The fields were poor and small. Poitrel's defeat in the Craven Plate was ■ a surprise, though Greenstead commanded a j considerable amount of support. The latter] equalled Cetlgne's record in 1918, and was ngalL' ridden by Council. This was Poitrel's ! first defeat in a welght-for-age race. j Jack Findlay, who pushed Greenstead to the lead in the Epsom Handicap, seemed sore I In the Suburban Handicap. I Vespucci was favorably placed throughout in the Granthjam' Stakes, but lacked finishing Cash. Following are the results: SECOND HURDLE RACE -Knight cf the Spear 0.0 1, Sir Rep 9.3 2, Breastwork 11.1 3. Greentsead moved up at the bend with Poitrel in hot pursuit, but Poitrel was unable to overtake the former, who won by three lengths, four lengths between second and third. Time, 2.4%, equalling the Australian record. SUBURBAN HANDICAP.-Elfacre 8.10 1, Kerwaka 7.7 2, Amberdown 7.11 3. Eleven starters. Elfacre soon shot to the front with Jack Findlay handy. Elfacre was never headed, and won by one and a half lengths Time, 1.37%, wi'hin a quarter of a seeci'd of the record. GRANTHAM STAKES.—David 8.7 1, Vespucci 8.4 2 ; Prince Charles 8.2 3. Seven starters. Vespucci was flrst out. Plcardy ran to th« front til! tte bend, and then Prince Charles, looking a winner in the straight, was worn down by David and Vespucci, s nock separating the flrst two. Time 2.6%. GIMCBACK STAKES.-Furious 8.0 1, Brit.' Song 8.0 2, Aeon 8.0 3. Twelve starters. The first two fought out the race throughout «on by a length. Time, 1.2%. SYDNEY HANDICAP.—Pershore 812 1 Daarewin 9.0 2, Laddie Blue 7.8 3. Five starters. Pershore was second during the Erst mile, and was knocked back at the bend but came again down the straight.
