The weather was ideal for the „ccond day of the AJ.C. spring meetiig. There were over 80,000 people present, a record attendance. The course was in excellent condition. The New Zealand representatives' star was in its ascendancy, Vespucci being the first to justify the trip across the the Tasman, although beaten by Erasmus. Pershore nrd Finmark commanded tremendous admiration in the Metropolitan Handicap, and justly so. Pershore receiving an ovation on weighing In. The Steeples provided an exciting tussle, particularly as Tararu Jack ran wide under the judge's hoi, maiy thinking Taralie the winner. Red Cardinal, In the Squatters' Handicap, Was unable to overtake' Daarewln, but finished gamely. Results are as follows: SHORTS HANDICAP—EIkin 7.10 1, Julia Grey G.ll 2, Elfacre 8.3 3. Nine starters. Parshore came away at the distance, wearing down Syce Knight, and won by one and a half lengths. Ecarte and Syce Knigfct were separated by n neck. Taralie and Tararu Jack shared the honors all the way, each leiilfug alternately. Both entered the straight together, and after a fine struggle dowi' the straight Tararu Jack won by a neck.
