MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) October 1.. A sitting o£ the Magistrate's Court was held on Wednesday last, before Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M. ' ' Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following eases:— Geo. Staeev v. Arime Patu, claim £2, &; D. Hutchinson v. W. Yardley, £9 os 7d; D. Campbell v. Henry Crow, £fi 8s; J. Rennie and Co. v. Len Tate, £l3 4s Bd. In the judgment summons case, Evan 11. Jones v. Len Tate, judgment was given for £l2 4s 3d. Debtor agreed to pay the debt off at £2 per month, and an order was made accordingly. C, Handley, Waitoitoi, charged with cruelty to a cow, wa- convicted and fined 40s and 31s costs. In a caso in connection with the training and expenses of the racehorse Master Curran, in which D. Stockman made a claim against James Dunlop (owner) for £74 15s Bd, the Magistrate reserved his decision. A Native named Ka-ipo was charged by Constable La Pouple with being in possession of a bicycle other than his own. The defendant claimed that he was only shifting it from one verandah po3t to another. The Magistrate severely reprimanded the boy, but did not convict. GENERAL. The vacancy on the Borough Council caused by the death of Mr. Beckbessinger, brought forth only one candidate on Tuesday last in the person of Mr. A. E. Jaggo, who was declared dulv elected to the position. .'.!.'. Xicliolls', of the Bank of New Zeaht"d stall'. Waitara, has taken up relieving work. The Tikorangi post office is no more, it becoming non est as from September :SO. Pending the completion of the post office box arrangements at the factory Mr. S. Foreman is acting. those who attended the Soldiers' Club ball on Thursday evening last, in Mr. Newton King's wool-shed, speak of it as a most enjoyable gathering. The committee had spared no pains to make their patrons comfortable, the ball being nicely decorated, supper of the best, and the music supplied by Messrs M* Fowler (piano), T. Hughes (double bass), S. George (comet), and Wiles and King (violins) was par excellence for the function. The M.C.'s, Captain Joll Messrs H. Brant, S. Tate, and C. H.' Sampson, with the assistance of an illuminate;! device, carried out, their pari of the programme efficienflv. ■ The committee worked hard, and they mtis be gratified at the results of the taking, which I believe will reach £IOO net'
