A substantial reduction in the wholesale price of starch has been notified to the Auckland branch of the Board of Trade. The reduction amounts to approximately 2Jd a lb on a 61b package, and 3d on a lib package. The representative of the Board of Trade stated that the retail prices should show a corresponding decrease.
A letter was received from the Frankly Road Settlers' Association at last jiight's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council asking that the tarsealing and metalling of Govett Avenue be one of the first works undertaken in the streets loan. The engineer reported that he would submit a schedule shortly setting out the works he recommends the Council to authorise.
The question of the erection of the tram shelter at Strandon was under review at the New Plymouth Borough Council's meeting last evening, when a communication was received from the Fitzroy Ratepayers' Association urging that the work he commenced without further delay. , The electrical engineer reported that he had just received the plans from the architeots, but no estimate.
In reply to some adverse criticism passed upon the Canterbury Land Board by the Christehurch Returned Soldiers' Association, the chairman of the board maintains that it is conserving the soldiers' interests, and protecting them from being imposed on. A communication was received by the New Plymouth Borough Council' last night from the secretary of the Taranaki Farmers' Meat Company stating that the directorate had under consideration a scheme for housing a number of the company's employees on the company's property lit the corner of' Devon and Kginont Roads, opposite the golf links, and asking the Council to consider the extension of the water supply to Die -proposed settlement. It was intended, as a commencement,, to erect ten residences, but it was probable that ultimately the number would be doubled. The Council decided to inform the company that Die ; mains will be extended providing the company pay the cost. Residents of Inglewood and district are reminded of the meeting to-night in the supper-room. Town Hall, at 8 o'clock, for the purpose of forming a branch of the Labor Party.
