MOASCAR CUP CONTEST.
THE SEMI-FINAIi. Palmerston North, Sept. 18, Over 10,000 witnessed the semi-final in Ihe Moaßcar Cup competition here to-day, when Palmoraron North Boys' High School played Auckland Grammar School. It was the greatest contest seen here for uuauy years, and was always fast and open. Ideal weather prevailed. The Palmcratoa boys won by 5 points to nil. The game was played in four twenty minutes' spells. Palmerston had a very slight advance in weight. From-the outset, thoy attacked vigorously, keeping Auckland close on the 25 line. The visitors made repeated counter-attacks which were invariably repelled. The home forwards were superior, and pressed to the. last line, where a great battle ensued. Riggs secured from a splendid opening, scoring in a handy position. Hodder converted. Auckland made several splendid forward rushes, but tjie defence was too solid. Up till half-time, the respective forward divisions attacked and counter-attacked, Palmerston having a slight advantage. Uoodacro, the Auckland full-back, played a great game, saving numerous dangerous attempts. After half-time, the-game grew more exciting. Auckland came within an ace of scoring from a concerted imove, but the clever work of the local backs nullified the attempt. Palmerston North's backs shone well, but Auckland's rearguard were almost invariably prevented from getting into action by the brilliant onslaughts of the opposing forwards. On several occasions, when in Palmerston territory the Auckland backs spoilt) good chances by faulty handling. The game ended without further score. : Palmerston meet Chilstchurch Boys' School In the final at Wellington on Tuesday. WELLINGTON BEAT WAIRARAPA. Wellington, Sept. 18. The Walrarapa Rugby representatives were soundly beaten by a Wellington fifteen this afternoon by 3S points to 11, OTAGO BEAT SOUTH CANTERBURY. Dunedin, Sept. 18. A match between Otago and South Canterbury was played at Carisbrook tills afternoon under perfect vjfealher conditions, and before an attendance of some 500 spectators. The game resulted in a substantial win for the home team by 28 points to 12. MARLBOROUGH DEFEAT~WEST COAST. Blenheim, Sept. IS. The Seddon Shield match, Marlborough (holders) v. West Coast, was played before a record crowd to-day. The game all through was fast and willing. Half-way through the first spell, Marlborough (Phillips) scored at tho corner, the kick at goal failing. Turning roun.d the Coast livened up, Mcintosh scoring at the corner, but no goal resulted. Shortly before time was called, Phillips again scored for tho local team, the game resultingMarlborough 6, West Coast 3. VISIT FROM SOUTH AFRICA. ACCEPTED FOR NEXT YEAR. In accepting New Zealand's Invitation, subject to the English Union Law's interpretations being the first conditions, the South African Rugby Board decided to send twenly-nine players and a manager, who leave in the last week in April, or the first week in May.
