DISTRICT NEWS.
HURFORD ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Hurford Road Progressive League was held on Wednesday evening for the purpose of promoting the genera! welfare of the district. Mr. A. Wood, who lias held the office of chairman for the past twelve.months, briefly outlined what had beea done during that period, and informed the settlers that the County Council Intended commencing the re-grading of the factory hill very soon, and also that the establishment of a telephone bureau was well on the way. Mr. Wood then tendered his resignation on account of his leaving the district, and Mr. Leo Sim was elected chairman IV the coming year. Mr. Sim expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Wood for tr.i valuable services he had given the district when aclin;In the capacity of chairman. Mr. Sim Went on to say that Mr. Wood's loss t» the road and district would be a great one. but he hoped that Mr. Wood would still keep In touch with his old associations. Mr. A. E. Williams was re-elected secretary and treasurer, and the following committee was elected: Messrs. M. Riordr.n, It. Rpence, B. McCoy, B. Taylor, and H. J. Smith. The matter of building a hall was left In abeyance, pending further details concerning material, etc. Mail boxes are now erocted at the factory, and this adds to the progressive strides the district is making.
