Newton King, Ltd., report holding their monthly sale on September 14 at Stratford. The catalogue comprised 1130 hides, 6352 calfskins and 53 tins of tallow. Competition was keen on all sound lots, but faulty hides and calf were again neglected. Compared with last sale prices generally showed a decline with the exception of heavy ox. For a good line of stout ox, 20d was obtained. Tallow declined 5s per cwt. We qute: Stout ox 17d to 20d, heavy 15% d to 16& d, imedlum 15% d to 15 light ll%d to 12?4d, cut; light lOd to ll%d. Cow, heavy, 12d to 13',fed, light li)%d to 121, id, cut 10% d to U%d. Farmer's cow, 9%d to 10% d, heavy conditioned 6%d to 9%d, cut 8d to 9d, slippy 4d to Od, bulls 5d to 7Vad, yearlings 12d to 16% d, cut and slippy Id to sd. At Stratford on the 7th, store cows sold at improved rates, but other classes showed little movement. At a Stratford dairy sale on tho same day, a very heavy 'yarding of good quality cattle mot with a steady demand throughout. The market showed a decided improvement. At Kohuratahi on the Bth, in conjunction with tho N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., we held our first spring sale. Thero was a very good yarding of both sheep and cat'le. The ottering, however, was in excels of the demand. Shortago of feed In the district no doubt prevented buyers from operating to full extent. Good wethers sold well, oilier classes showing little change.
