With the re-organisation of the Public Works staff in the Dominion, the Stratford office, in common with others will be affected by tflie changes. Already there have been several transfers. Mr. H. Arthur, Chief Clerk, goes to Wellington as Inspector. Mr. T. A. Johnston, Assistant Engineer, is transferred to Shannon as assistant on the Mangaho hydro-electric scheme . Mr. B. C. Annand is Assistant Engineer at Tahora, and Mr. C. H. Lawn, Chief Draughtsman, has been promoted to Office Engineer, and he will remain in the Stratford Office. MV. N. J. Ryan, Chief Clerk, Taumarunui, has been transferred to a like position in Stratford office.
The staff of the Stratford district office of the Public Works Department made a presentation yesterday afternoon to Air. 11. Arthur, late chief clerk, who has been promoted 'to inspector, and is shortly leaving for the head office, Wellington. Mr. L. B. Campbell, district engineer, referred to Mr. Arthur's services with the late Roads Department in the days of his earlier career, and his later services with the Public Works Department, more particularly his connection with the, Taranaki branch office during the past six and a-half years. Mr. Arthur, he said, had throughout shown himself an efficient officer, and had impressed the heads of the department as well as those with whom he had to deal locally. While t.hey were sorry to lose Mr, Arthur's services to the district, they all joineil in congratulating him on his well-earned promotion. On behalf of the staff, Mr. Campbell asked Mr. Arthur to accept, as a memento of his sojourn in the district, a gold Albert chain and pendant, suitably inscribed, and at the same time wishing him every success in his new sphere. Mr. Arthur suitably replied, thanking Mr. Campbell and the member of the staff for their kindness and good wishes. Mr. Campbell then welcomed Mr. N. J. Ryan, the incoming chief clerk to the district, who replied expressing his thanks for the welcome extended to him.
At a special meeting of the Stratford School Committee held last night tlie matter of the children's operatic concert was discussed. It was reported that Mr. Edmondson has the children in hand, and is going to considerable trouble to have them efficient for the performance. It was resolved to engage the Town Hall for October 7th,"and the prices of admission were fixed at 3s and 2s, children to be admitted at half price. The committee hopes to have the hearty support of the public, as the performance promises to be an excellent one, and it is for the benefit of the school funds, which are in need of help. Ladies!
