WAGGONS FOR FARMERS.
SURPLUS MILITARY STORES. QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) i Wellington, Last' Night. The sale to farmers of some of the timber waggons and harness recently received by the Defente Department from Britain was suggested by Mr. J. A. Nash (Palmerston North) in a question to the Minister of Defence. The official reply was that as soon as all military equipment had arrived it was proposed to issue training equipment to units throughout the country, and retain in the mobilisation stores the necessary reserves for mobilisation. Surplus motor vehicles would be handed to other State departments, surplus horse thransport'Tehicles would be sold, and it was hoped to place a number of general service waggons on the market at an early date. Timber waggons would not be available. Mr. Nash pressed the point. He said that the Defence Department was holding a very large quantity of vehicles and harness which could be used with great advantage by the farmers. The Minister for Defence assured the member that all stores not required for mobilisation purposes would be sold. The military harness would not be suitable for use on the farms. Mr. Nash: "It is wonderful what the farmers can do with it."
