OPIUM IN THE PHILIPPINES.
BIG TRADE BY CHINESE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, Kept. 10. Reports from Manila state that more than 3000 Chinese who entered the Philippines from Borneo in violation of the immigration laws will be reported in accordance with a decision of the Philippines Council of State. The Chinese are charged with introducing large quantities of opium into Mindanao, whence it is distributed throughout the Philippine group. The territorial authorities are much concerned over the existence of a big opium trade, and intend to take drastic measures to wipe it out.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
