Messrs. S. ft. Smith, R. Masters. VV. T. Jennings, W. D. Powdreil, and 0. Hawken, M.P.'s, spe.it the week-end at their homes. The death occurred at the Christclmrch Hospital m Saturday of the Rev. G. W. Harding, of Prebbleton, who was injured in a motor accident last Sunday. The motor ear which he was driving collided with another motor, and Mr. Harding suffered a fractured thigh and injuries to his head.—Press Association. Mr. G. W. Browne, of New Plymouth, was elected a life member of the Taranakl A. and P. Society at a meeting of the general committee held on Saturday. The president (Mr. W. B. Grant) paid a tribute to the work of Mr. Browne, from whom, he said, the Society had received ,very valuable assistance. He was also one of their oldest members. At Saturday's meeting of the Eltham County Council, the chairman (Mr. J. Belcher) moved a vote of condolence with the family of the late Mr. W. F. Parkinson, senior proprietor of the Hawera Star. Mr. Belcher said that Mr. Parkinson had been associated with different local bodies for many years.and they could judge from the tone of his paper the splendid type of man he was. Mr. Belcher also moved a vote of condolence with the family of the late Mr. G. D. Gow, who was a well-respected citizen and chairman of the Eltham Chamber of Commerce. The motions were carried in silence, the members standing. The following transfers and promotions have recently been approved for the Customs Department:—Mr. F. Davies, Collector of Customs, Greymouth, to be inspector, Wellington; Mr. T. C. Rowe, Collector of' Customs, Westport, to be inspector, Chrifltchurch; Mr. G. H. Cornes, examining officer, Auckland, to be inspector, Auckland; Mr. F. Oxford, first clerk, Dunedin, to bo Collector of Customs, Greymouth; Mr.'C. jE. Brocket, examining officer, Christchurch, to be Collector of Customs, Westport; Mr. 0. Schlaepfcr, "clerk, Wellington, to be assistant examining officer, Auckland; Mr. L. Brewer, clerk, Christchurch, to be. assistant examining officer, Christchurch; Mr. E. J. Bridgman, clerk, Christchurch, to be examin- j ing officer, Christchurch.
