DOMINION TOURNAMENT. RECORDS m PRACTICE PLAY. (By Wire.—Special Reporter.) Hamilton, Last. Night. The golf championships, which open tomorrow, promise to bo the most interesting ever held. Much needed rain fell on Satur- j day, which greatly improved the courße. The ; fairways and the greens are in splendid condition. j rractice play has been excellent, and Kirkwood (Australia) lies (Christchurch), Macewan (Heretaunga), and H. li. Luslt (Auckland) have all completed the round in 72 — a record for the course. Douglas, tho present open champion, returned a card of 7a. On Friday, a imatch between Australia, and New Zealand will bo played. Kirkwood and East will represent the former, and the two highest professionals in the open championship will represent New Zealand, This is sure to develop into a match between Kirkwood and Douglas. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. The New Plymouth Club's championships, senior and junior, are now approaching finality. On Saturday afternoon, T. V. Mackay beat .T. S. Paton, 2 up, and now meets W. H. Rohertshaw next Saturday in the - final of '. the Saturday section. On Thursday, G. Gudgeon plays H. Thomson in the final of the Thursday section. The winner of each section will meet in the final over 36 holes, to be played on Saturday, the 25th Inst. In the junior championship, Johnson beat S. Burgess, 2 up and 1, and won the Saturday final, while Surrey won from Renner by default in the Thursday final. Johnson and Surrey will decide the honor next Saturday over 36 holes. , A MEDAL MATCH. A medal match was played at Waiwakaiho on Saturday afternoon for players not engaged in the championships. The best cards were: C. H. Croker. 101—27—74; W. H. Quickfall, 105—27—75; D. Smvthe, 92—13 79; W. H. Robertshaw, S7—6—Sl; Rev. O. Blundell, 101—20—81; T. G. Thompson, 102— 20—82.
