WARNING TO LICENSEES.
SUPPLYING LIQUOR TO YOUTHS. "VERY SEBIOUS OFFliNOfi." A, warning was issued to licensees by the Stratford Licensing Committee yesterday, against the practice of aoine licensees whose hotels were situated along I the railway lines, of supplying liquor to | people going into the train. With rejgard to supplying liquor to adults the committee could do nothing, but it had been reported to the committee that on some occasions boys had been supplied with iiquor in such circumstances^ This was a very serious offence said the chairman (Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.), and he wished to say that personally he would deal very severely with anyone {supplying liquor in such circumstances, j A bad. case had recently come under his notice at Patea, in which four youths, , all under age, were supplied with liquor ! before going on the train. He warned licensees that if such things happened in future the license would not be renewed. The chairman said he had been informed that the Toko train wag the worst in this respect, and the committee hopvd that some improvement would taka place immediately. Sergt. Dale, for the police, remarked that there was another matter he wished 10 refer to, and that was that it was a great pity the football people did not provide proper conveniences for their teams on returning to Stratford, It seemed a great pity that when the boys came off the football field they had to go to hotels for their baths. The chairman said he did not think the committee could do anything in the matter.
