OBITUARY.

MR. E. BECKBESSINUER. The death occurred at Waitara early this morning of Mr. Ernest T. Beckbessinger, a well-known business man of Waitara, and a former Mayor of the town. Mr. Beckbcssinger had been in ill-health for about three years, but car* ried on his business of a" general store until the'end. The late Mr. Beckbcssinger was 4!1 years of age, having been born in IS<l at Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England, whore he was educated. In 1891 he came to New Zealand, and established himself in business with Mr. 8. G. Fraser at general store-keeping in Waitara. He was subsequently secretary to the Raleign Town Board, which was superseded by the Waitara Borough Council in IMU, and in more, recent years he was Mayor of Waitara. Mr. Beekbessinger played a prominent part In all the activities of the town, commercial and social, and made a wide circle of friends in the business communitv of Taranaki.
