QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT.

BY TARANAKI MEMBERS. Taranaki members have given notice of the following questions in Parliament:— Mr. Hawken (Egmont), to ask the Minister of Agriculture whether he will give greater powers to town boards and other local authorities under the Slaughtering and Inspection Act, in order that their supplies of meat may be regularly inspected. Mr, Jennings (Waitomo), to ask the Minister in charge of the Tourist and Health Resorts Department whether he is aware of any attempt to alter or add to the names of places in Tongariro National Park,. alleged to be made on a recently prepared map of same. Mr. Jennings states that this valuable park, with Ruapehu, was a gift by the Hon. Te Heuheu Tukino's father for the benefit of the citizens oi this Dominion, and to alter or add European names to cliffs, crags, glaciers, craters, steam-holes, etc., which have been known for generation?; by Maori names, would be a breach of faith to Tukino and the Taupo natives. Mr, S. G. Smith (Taranaki), to ask the Minister of Marine whether,'' in view of the fSct that the suvey ship Veronica is said to be now in Australian waters, he will consider the advisability of arranging for a re-survey of the coast between Cape Egmont and Manukau harbor ; and whether, if such survey can be undertaken, he will arrange that the 30-, the 50-, and the 100-fathom lines be shown oil the chart. In a note to his question Mr. Smith states that the original survey was made in 1849 and 1851, and the houndings partook more of the nature of a running survey, hence the reason for more up-to-date detail work. Mr. Jennings (Waitomo), to ask the Minister of Public Works whether any attempt is being made by the Public Works Department to push on the four small bridges and four small tunnels leading from Mahirakau to Matiere. Mr. Jennings adds that statements are general in the district, made at public meetings. that nothing is being done, and that steel rails for bridges have been removed from the district to other railway works in the Dominion.
