OPPOSED IN POVERTY BAY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Gisborne, Sept. 4. The largest meeting of farmers ever held in Poverty Bay took place to-day to eohsider the meat trade problem. The president of the Kast Coast Sheep-farmers' Association (Mr. W. G. Shcrratt) moved: ''That, in view of the congestion at Home and in the Dominion, it is desirable that free trade in frozen meat should be permitted inside the safeguards of the Slaughterers' Inspection Act." An amendment to the effect that it is detrimental, to the interests of the producers to grant licenses in any shape or form, either to Armour's or any like enterprise, was carried by \an overwhelming majority, ' It was decided to telegraph the amendment to the Premier.
