WAITARA.

MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) September 3. The local sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held on Wednesday last, before Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M. Judgment for plaintiff was given in the following cases:—Fred Fitzhenry v. G. T. and E. Perrott, £39 17s (id (costs £3 15s Gd); E. Reynolds v. Len Tats, £4 9s 3d and costs las (id; D. Hutchinson v. A. A. Hcsp, £4 14s 8d and costs 21s Cd. W. Terrill v. Turn, junr., judgment £0 Os 2d. An order was made for payment forthwith, or in default six days imprisonment. A. A. Heep was charged on two informations with failing to send his child to school since May. A fine of 10b in each case, with 10s costs, was imposed. S. 0. Fraser, storekeeper, was charged with failing to affix the requisite stamp to a receipt of over £2. Defendant pleaded guilty. Mr. Bennett, for defendant, said it was a case of inadvertence. The defendant, through rush of business, overlooked it. Defendant was' fined Is, without costs. James Betts was charged with assaulting a lad named Cornelius O'Sullivan. The defendant was ordered to pay costa, amounting to £3 12e 6d. GENERAL. The ball being inaugurated on behalf of the Soldiers' Club has been postponed to a- later date, owing to Mr. King's wtfol-shed not yet being available. The Soldiers' Club committee's thanks are due to Mesdames McPherson and La Pouple for the sum of £3 15b, the net result of the euchre party. The ladies worked hard to achieve success, but were unfortunate in having a stormy night. Mr. Gould, of Knox Church, lectured in St. John's Hall on Wednesday evening last to a fair sized audience. The lecture consisted of his travels-through Asia Minor and Palestine, illustrated by excellent lantern views. The proceed* are to go towards the purchase of books for the Bible Class library. The following is the result of the music examination held in connection w 'th tiie Trinity of Music, at the Waitara Convent, and conducted by Mr. Schilsky. All the pupils presented were successful:—Higher local: Constance Badley. Intermediate: Marjorv Purdie. Junior: (Kitty Cain, Kathleen Kershaw. Preparatory: Alice Wells (honors), .Tieryl Frost,' Jack Ford, Ivan Beckbessinger, Edna Ki'bbv. First steps: Phyllis Chittenden (honors).
