U.S. PRESIDENCY.

the fraud charges. ISSUE OF THE ELECTION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 3, 5.5 p.m. New York, Sept. 2. Charges and counter-charges among Republicans and Democrats, concerning the over-large campaign funds, continue, i The Congressional Investigating Commission examined both the Democratic and the Republican campaign managers. Mr. White (Democrat) declared that he had no evidence to show that the Republicans planned to raise fifteen mil- i lion dollars, but lie'believed that Mr. J. M. Cox (the Democrat nominee for i the Presidency) could prove the charge. ] Mr. Hays (Republican) branded Mr. ] Cox's charges as false, tind counter- 1 charged the Democrats with raising a i ten million dollar fund, especially ] through the liquor interests. ' i Mr. W. G. 'Harding (the Republican 1 nominee for the Presidency) refused to ! comment on Mr. Cox's allegations, while Mr. Cox declared Mr. Hay's statements to be absurd. The committee now contemplates subpoeaning Mr. Cox to appear to substantiate his charges. Mr. Cox reiterated the statements, and declared that he proposes to reaffirm the charges before every audience he addresses before election time. All other issues appear to be forgot- i ten temporarily, and the partisan Press ' takes the issue sharply.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable ' Assn. . 1
