PIERCE RIOTS AT BELFAST. CURFEW IN OPERATION. London, Sept. 1. The rigid enforcement by the military of the Curfew order in Belfast resulted in a peaceful night. The streets were deserted till five o'clock this morning. Afterwards the police fatally shot a man who was trying to escape from a looted publie-house. _ Sinn Feiners attacked with stones and rifle shots the trams which were conveying workmen to the shipyards, and fierce rioting followed, in which the military fired several volleys. London, August 31. Further rioting took place at Belfast to-day. Troops used machine-guns to root out the Sinn Feiners' snipers, who were hiding on the roofs of houses. A curfew order operates in Belfast tonight, and nobody will be allowed in the streets from J0.30 p.m. to 5 a.m., except indispensables, for example, doctors.
