TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIP. THE FINAL TO-MORROW. The tie for the Taranaki provincial championship, which takes place at Waitara tomorrow afternoon between Hawera and Clifron seniors, is attracting great interest, and' given fine weather should attract a large attendance. When the teams imet in Hawera a very close, game resulted, ending in a draw, and each side is confident of gaining the upper hand to-day, so that a keen struggle is assured. The Hawera team will be strengthened by the inclusion of West,.who was away with the New Zealand team in Australia, and A. Paterson, while the Clifton team will be up to full strength. The Hawera team will be selected from the following: Wills, Wilkinson, Robertson, Whittiugton, Ryan, Cameron, Paterson, Greig, Fogarty, Lavery, Murphy (2), West, Day, McLaren, Spratt, and Hunt. Mr. B. Petty will referee the match. SOUTH CANTERBURY BEAT WANGANUI. A VERY CLOSE MATCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. South Canterbury defeated Wanganui by 8 points to 6. The weather was fine and the ground fast. In the first spell, Ross scored twice for Wanganui, and Taylor and Storey oach scored one try for South Canterbury, Scott converting one. Thero was no score 'in the second spell. It was a hard game. The Wanganui captain (Cowie) was taken to hospital with slight concussion, but he is expected to be all right in the morning.
