Penton, C.V.0., C.8., ex-Com-mandant of New Zealand.—United Service. [General Penton, who was in his GOth year, was Commandant of the New Zealand Defence Forces from IS9G to 11)01. He entered the Royal Artillery in 1873, and from 1878 to 1880 he 'served in Afghanistan, being mentioned in despatches. On leaving yiew Zealand Genera! Penton returned to England, where he has since held various appointments, the latest being in command of the South-Western coast defence?.]
