EXCHANGE RATES. THE WOOL MARKET. By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright. Received August 31, 9.15 p.m. London, August 30. Foreign exchange rates are: Paris 61.47 francs; Stockholm, 17 03 kroner; Christlania, 24.80 kroner; Calcutta, 22% d pence; Yokohama 33% d; Montreal, 3.98 dollars; New York, 3MY- dollars. At the wool sales. Merinos, Continental sorts, were harder, and others were unchanged. Greasy crossbreds were fully firm, scoureds were slightly dearer, and slipes were unchanged. Silver, 59% d per ounce. THE HOME MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated 28th ' inst., from the High Commissioner for New 1 Zealand, London : Meat—Market quiet, supplies larger and i prices lower at tiie close of the market except for a small supply of fresh mutton and Irimb. • Beef Is 4i/ 2 d, mutton Is 9d, lamb Is 10d. Imported malting barely maximum filed prices. ' Butter. —Irish very scarco and quoted at £2l 10s to £22, but at these extreme rates buyers are more reserved. English supplies smsrll; average price is £2l. Cheese.—Demand for English continues very slow, finest farming quoted at £8 12s to £lf 6s. Canadian market firmer, but demand at the Jilgher prices only moderate. Spot quotations, white £7 10s to £7 18s, colored * 2s more; quotations, c.i.f, vary considerably, ranging from £7 17s to £8 3s.
