STRATFORD.

TARANAKI DAILY NEWS. STRATFORD AGENCY. . Advertisements and items of news for publication should be left at the office of the local representative, W. J. Wilson, next Union Bank* A. AND P. ASSN. August 30. The monthly report of the executive of the Stratford A. and P. Association states that it is hoped to, have the work of erection of the new cattle pavilion completed in the near future. Up to the present the canvas for subscriptions for the building fund had met with a fairly good response, besides being a good advertisement for the progress of the Society. The lease of the show grounds expired at the end of the month, and the executive had arranged With the present tenant for a further term of twelve months at the same rental and on similar lines as at present existing. During the month a confertnce was held in Stratford between representatives of the three Taranaki Associations, when matters of mutual interest were discussed, and where possible a common line of action decided on. The ftchedule for the nest Show had been receiving the attention of local breed associations interested, and committees set up for the purpose of revising and bringing up-to-date the various elasses in their respective sections. Most of this work was now finished and passed by the executive. It would be found that the classes arranged for the cbming Show had in many instances been extended and mado more attractive. In connection with the Open Hunters' Competition, it had been decided to donate b trophy value 25 gnR. (to be won three times, besides the i.snal pmemoney of £ls. The prize award for the Maiden Hunters' Competition imd*also been inCreased to £lO and .£5 respectively, while a new class has- been created for a wire jumping competition. Several smaller but much needed alterations had been mado in the horse Section, and should have the'effect of popularising! this part of the Show. • I Tho Friesian Breeders had decided to

add to the attractions of their' section. Last year's special, classes have all been kept with some slight alteratiina, besides which several new classes had been created., The Jersey Breeders' Association would lie meeting the nest .week to decide what lines they intend to follow. Although- the Jersey championship would not be held in Stratford this year, members (of the local branch wore seeing that the' Jersey classes would bo none the less attractive. The Ayrshire and Shorthorn 'classes while following on exactly the same lines as the Friesian and Jersey, have not the advantage of any local breed society to foster their interests by promoting special classes. It is, however, hoped that a meeting of the Shorthorn breeders will be called before the schedule goes into print, and that arrangements will be made so that greater 'attractions may be) offered to exhibitors. In the crossbred section, tho executive. in view of past experience had decided to allow grade cattle to compete in the classes for crossbreds, the falling of in entries since this was prohibited more than justifying the decision. The sheep classes had been remodelled and brought up-to-date. -In the pig section, it had been decided tnat the Association should claim the right to buy pigs competing in the porker and bacon classes at ruling factory prices. The home industry and dog sections had been revised but not dealt with by the executive. It was expected that this work would be completed by the end of the week, and the schedule placed with the printers at an earlv date. A special effort would have to be made to enrol new settlers in the district on the books of the Association; a system would shortly be evolved which it was expected would help materially in this direction. GENERAL. The establishment of a bftnch of the Public Trust Office in Stratford, has met with remarkable success, and has led to the establishment of a branch office at Eltham, and another branch office will shortly be established in Inglewood. The new concrete shop which is be.r.g erected for Smart Bros, in B/oad\vay North is nearing completion, and wiil add considerably to the appearance of this portion of the town. After the unsettled weather evperienced last week, this morning broke gloriously fine, and the general comment was to the effect that although Stratford peopb have to submit to a good deal of unfavorable weather, when they do get a really good day, it is some compensation. Mt. Egmont presented a beautiful appearance, standing out in bold relief against a blue ;:ky. Ladies! Call arjd inspect the splendid display of new leather'bags at H. J, Hopkins, Stratford.
